Potential Discrimination
Problem Definition
ACM 1.4
Be fair and take action not to discriminate
Certain neighbourhoods/areas could be left out due to discriminatory reasons.
ACM 2.4
Accept and provide appropriate professional review
It is possible that whoever in charge of collecting the data may be selectively ignoring certain areas
Gathering Information
Stakeholders
Government/ Organisation
Responsible for implementing the water quality sensors in an area to improve water condition
Deciding factor could be a reason unrelated to the water condition of that area (e.g. discrimination)
The areas with water quality sensors
People from that area may begin to worry about the condition and cleanliness of water in their area
The areas without water quality sensor
People from that area may begin to question if their area being left out is due to discriminatory reasons
Applying Guideline Principles

Rights
Name of location should only be revealed when necessary.
Some non-crucial data will only be shared with the consent of the user

Utilitarianism
Prioritise the health and safety of everyone no matter their background
The most important factor in deciding to use water quality sensor in and area should be the condition of water in that area

Generating, evaluating and taking action
The main purpose of the water quality sensor is to monitor the water quality of an area, this will include collecting, analysing data and sending data to a local organisation. Thus, the best approach to this problem is the utilitarianism approach as it prioritises the health and safety of people.
Reflect
The way the world works, there will always be the possibility of discrimination even when it is to improve the health and quality of life of the public. But the utilitarianism approach is a good approach in eliminating this factor
